- Telenav Scout® GPS Link (SGL) launched on additional Toyota model year 2019 vehicles, including Toyota RAV4 and Lexus UX.
This marks the third model year that Toyota has included the Scout GPS Link navigation app in selected vehicle models sold in the U.S. and Canada. Telenav Scout GPS Link turns a vehicle’s multimedia screen into a full in-car guidance system, powered by a smartphone app and the cloud. It enables drivers to easily transfer the navigation information displayed on their mobile device to the multimedia display inside the car, where it can be easily seen and heard by the driver.
- Telenav and Amazon collaborated to bring customized, turnkey Alexa conversational-voice interface to Telenav in-car navigation.
Telenav began integrating Amazon Alexa into its automotive navigation system offerings, making voice-based services like Alexa compatible with drivers’ needs and vehicle safety standards. This expands opportunities for consumers to have a single integrated voice service available at home, on mobile, and in their vehicle. The customized turnkey solution combines Telenav’s deep automotive experience and world-class navigation system with the cloud-based voice service from Amazon, expanding users’ touch points beyond home and smartphone to connected vehicles. The collaboration results in a tailored, voice-forward experience, where the touch user experience and Alexa are seamlessly integrated, providing a superior in-car experience. Based on the Alexa Auto SDK, the integration allows drivers to enjoy hands-free access to their in-vehicle connected navigation system, while easily asking Alexa to enter destinations, check traffic, and get directions. It also gives automakers the ability to provide their customers with a more useful, continuous experience at home and on the road.
- Telenav Scout GPS Link (SGL) mobile application added Yelp ratings and reviews for the U.S. and Canadian markets.
The addition of Yelp – a leading and internationally-recognized purveyor of crowd-sourced reviews concerning local businesses – content provides SGL users with an easy way to locate highly-rated restaurants and local businesses from their in-car entertainment system when connected to SGL. Partnering with Yelp represents Telenav’s next step in providing consumers with an enhanced connected-car experience. In addition to Telenav’s in-car ads and in-car commerce offerings, integrating Yelp into Scout GPS is an important step in the company’s efforts to grow its leadership position in offering consumers the in-car experiences that are changing the future of connected cars.
With the emergence of new technologies – such as connected, electric, and autonomous vehicles, Telenav continues to help its OEM partners navigate the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing industry.
